Weather ā
Only four indoor games this week, but still damn near nothing for weather news this week. Itās been a pretty mild autumn. Thanks, Al Gore.
Best chance for rain: Seattle @ San Francisco; seeing very different numbers but somewhere in the 25-50% chance range
Winds: Green Bay @ Chicago is looking like some chances
The coldest weather game of the week may have already come and gone with none of the Sunday slate looking like itāll compete with the lows in the 40s we saw on TNF
Situational š
It's built into the line, but it's still worth remembering before you fire off too many bets this morning.
GB/CHI - Green Bay is coming off the bye, while Chicago will have a new playcaller in Thomas Brown.
CLE/NO - The Browns are off the bye, while New Orleans will head to theirs next week
BAL/PIT - Baltimore with extra rest off of TNF
LV/MIA - Vegas is coming off the bye week, and Miami is on short rest after playing on MNF. This will be the Raidersā first game under new OC Scott Turner.
JAX/DET - Jacksonville will be heading to the bye week (possibly while naming an interim coach???)
MIN/TEN - Minnesota is on the 2nd week of three straight on the road
SEA/SF - The Seahawks are off the bye
ATL/DEN - Falcons are on the 2nd straight road game heading to Denver and will head to the bye next week
CIN/LAC - Cincy is on extra rest after playing on TNF but is also traveling for the 2nd straight week. Theyāll head to the bye after this one.
The Colts and Rams have their first real cold weather games in New England and New York, sort of (itās just not that cold out yet.)
Sunday Bets
It was a bit of a tough week for me to find any totals I loved, but numerous sides grabbed my attention.
Minnesota -6
This is one where both my raw power rating numbers and my matchup metrics strongly push toward the road team. Massive matchup advantages for the Vikings run defense, coverage unit, and in the trenches (on both sides of the ball). Levis was slightly better last week but still takes big drive-killing sacks. With CB LāJarius Sneed out, I just donāt see a way for this defense to slow down Justin Jefferson. Meanwhile, the Vikings are suddenly back to health on defense and should be able to flex the pass rush a bit today.
Audric Estime (DEN) o55.5 Rushing Yards -120
I had a pretty big edge on this matchup just on the surface level of these team's ratings for the offensive line, rushing success, and run stop. The Falcons injury report really didnāt shake out well for them this week. Down multiple players at all three levels on the defensive side of the ball, this could and should be another week for Sean Payton to help his young QB shine, and as has been the case all year, the run game will be a big part of that. Maybe theyāll mix it up a bit, but for now, it looks like the Broncos are willing to continue to feed the young RB as the first option on running downs.
Colts +4
I canāt understand the marketās insistence on backing the Jets each week at these prices. Theyāve proven that even with a good roster, coaching probably matters quite a bit, and this team is often outmatched in that department. This is another solid matchup for Jonathan Taylor, and maybe thatās part of the reason the powers that be in Indy are willing to go back to the 2nd year QB in Richardson again. With an option like Taylor out of the backfield to take some of the pressure off, maybe weāll see an offense thatās less reliant on the long-ball going forward.
Pretty simple one on the Chiefsā side: they are getting points and have yet to find themselves in a game where theyād even be in peril of losing by multiple scores. With the injuries to the pass-catchers in the Buffalo, I think this is a lovely spot for this teaser leg.
Miami has a solid matchup for their offense at home, especially considering that the Raiders will be down a corner with Nate Hobbs sidelined for this one. The only thing I donāt love is that this is a bit of a rest disparity for the Dolphins. I donāt know that weāll see the same intensity from the defense as we saw on Monday night; Tua and the offense will need to carry them a bit more here.
Sunday Night Football: Chargers -1
The Khalil Mack injury (listed as questionable, but i have my doubts) has me liking this less than I did, but this still looks like a pretty solid matchup for the Chargers defense. This could be a game that hinges on one matchup: the Chargers pass defense vs Burrow and his receivers. The Chargersā run defense is stingy as hell and should be able to make the Bengals one-dimensional for big chunks of the game. What DC Jesse Minter is able to dial up for pressures and coverages may just well decide the winner here. Just a bunch of smaller matchup advantages for me here, hoping to see the Chargers pass rusās pass rush tee off and Justin Herbert continuing to look like heās taken that step that makes good QBs great: being able to elevate everyone around him.
