Week 5 NFL Power Ratings
The Chiefs are back! The Titans stink worse than expected! The Ravens are... hurt.
Another week in the books, another 50 injuries to adjust for, but at least we get to start the bye weeks! Having two fewer games to figure out this week should help, although I did indeed get my mojo back in week 4 after an awful showing the week prior.
Again, we’re dealing with some very meaningful injuries at the quarterback spot, and for now, I am making the following assumptions:
Lamar will not play this week; we’ll get Cooper Rush. Even if I’m incorrect here, my rating for Lamar will be diminished due to his leg injury (which is all but confirmed to be out since I started writing this). It hurt me physically to rate them this low.
I think Jayden Daniels returns for the Commanders this week, and they get the bump for it
I will assume it’s Wentz again for Minny
The Purdy injury seems bad enough that I will slot in Mac Jones again (for now) for the 49ers.
Brian Callahan still coaches the Titans.

Still plenty of time to switch things up before the week, but here’s a six-pack of thoughts for the road
Detroit’s week one hiccup is looking more and more like growing pains for a heavily rolled-over staff. Devil’s Advocate: It’s harder to tell against weaker competition, and things don’t get any tougher this week.
Buffalo’s defense is bad right now (somewhat due to injury), but Josh plus the playcalling is good enough to overcome that even versus stiffer competition. Something about guys named Brady and the AFC East, I guess.
I don’t really understand what’s up with Green Bay and may rewatch both games again. I feel like I just need to give Dak some damn credit (he was great), and laud another OC for a game plan that took Parsons out of the equation enough to keep the chains moving.
The NFC West is going to be electric down the stretch. Three teams that are well above average when healthy and a squirrely Arizona squad that can play spoiler.
I’m still puzzled by the Jaguars. It seems that the moves made in the offseason have improved the secondary, but at the same time, the defensive success has felt heavily reliant on some well-timed turnovers. I’ll continue to be a little colder on them than the market, and we’ll see who’s the bigger asshole in a few weeks.
Tennessee is approaching the dreaded “double-digits worse than an average team” rating. It’s hard to find nice things to say about them.
Biggest drop of the week: Ravens, duh. Not just Lamar, they also lost multiple defensive starters.
Biggest riser: The Chiefs coming back to the land of the living with a legit WR back on the field. Maybe I overreacted last week with their drop.
Team that’s gonna make me look stupid: The Giants got a small bump up, but Dart leaving the game in an ambulance at some point this season feels like -110. No Nabers plus Jaxson’s death wish on every scramble feels like Daboll is still in trouble.
