Week 8 NFL Bets

Injury News, Weather Updates, and a Few Bets for the Week

Quarterback News 📰

  • In a strange series of events, and despite proclaiming him ready to go after the bye, it looks like Lamar Jackson will miss another game, with Snoop Huntley filling in at QB for the Ravens. The league may be unhappy with how they handled the reporting.

  • Kirk Cousins is highly likely to get the start today for Atlanta, with Michael Penix dealing with a bone bruise.

  • Bryce Young was ruled out earlier in the week with an ankle sprain. Andy Dalton will make his yearly appearance.

  • Justin Fields is back for the Jets from his benching, likely due to a knee injury for Tyrod Taylor.

  • Brock Purdy will miss another game with the toe injury. Mac Jones gets another start.

  • Monday will see Marcus Mariota again starting for the Commanders with Jayden Daniels sidelined due to a hamstring.

Weather ⛈

Much like the NBA, weather is a game of runs. Some weeks there’s a half dozen important situations to monitor, some weeks (this week) there’s practically nothing.

  •  Washington @ Kansas City (MNF) - Some chance of rain and maybe thunderstorms.

Situational 📆

  • No international games this morning!

  • Baltimore and Buffalo are coming off their bye weeks.

  • Cincinnati and Pittsburgh are playing with extra rest coming off TNF

  • Green Bay is on a back-to-back road stretch tonight vs the Steelers

  • The NY Giants are also on a back-to-back road trip, heading to Philly after last week’s loss in Denver.

  • Houston and Tampa Bay will be on short rest, having played on Monday night. The Bucs are also on the road for the second straight week before they head into the bye week.

  • Monday night is the third straight home game for the surging Chiefs. Washington is playing on the road for the second week in a row after last week’s loss in Dallas.

Dallas +3.5

Going back to the well until the bucket comes up dry. Not only backing the Cowboys (offense) again, but against the market on the Broncos for the second straight week. Despite the crazy 4th quarter, I’m not seeing it on paper or on film for Nix right now. Dallas is playing well in the trenches, and hopefully, we just continue to see Dak playing at the high level he’s been at for most of the year.

Carolina/Buffalo over 47

Buffalo may still become a truck on offense again (hopefully today), but the soft, gooey center of this defense may remain an issue all season long. I don’t have it as a downgrade, going to Andy Dalton here, and love the idea of the Panthers getting some big chunks on the ground against my 29th-rated run defense.

Tampa Bay -3.5

Road team, in-division, off short rest, lots of injuries. Yet the market still refuses to take this down to a field goal for the road favorites. I think Tampa Bay’s defense is criminally underrated and is coming off a nasty stretch of games versus good quarterbacks, coordinators, and offenses in general. I’m not so sure New Orleans has any of that going for them.
