Week 8 Lookahead Lines

Plus some Friday catchup before the weekend.

I was unhappy with the two late touchdowns last night, but as the poet Kurtis Blow said, these are the breaks.

Meanwhile, the Saints are in bad shape if they don’t plan on getting healthy in a hurry.

ICYMI:

Lookaheads

Again, I'm punching in my numbers for next week, trying to future cast some injury news that matters for teams and taking a swing at some early lines on a Friday.

A few games looked like edges but were quickly erased when I did work on the matchups or possible injury stuff. In the end, I found three lines that I think could be adjusted come Sunday night that I’ll be grabbing today:

Washington -1.5

ATL/TB over 48

GB/JAX over 47.5

I also took a look at Seattle +3 at home hosting Buffalo, but I have the likelihood of Buffalo looking very good and the Seattle defense having issues again pretty high this week in their matchups. Maybe I will end up in Seattle next week, but for now, I don’t see a ton of chances for that number to shorten before opening.

Week 7 Teaser Rankings

Haven’t been many opportunities of late, but buddy, that’s about to change. A MESS of possible teaser legs lining up this week. A few are in games with some possibility of high scoring which can be scary, but still some nice spots. My rankings for now:

  1. Washington -8

  2. Kansas City +1.5

  3. Detroit Lions +1.5

  4. Houston +2.5

  5. Steelers +1.5

  6. Arizona +2’

  7. Buffalo -9

The Weekend Ahead

There are a ton of games in domes/nice weather cities this week, leaving much of the weather out of the picture (for now), but I did want to point out that we could have a bit of a gross one Sunday morning. I wanted to talk about that game anyway, so maybe two birds, one stone, or whatever the British equivalent of that is.

Rain is almost certainly going to affect this final London game, with most places giving it an 80%+ chance, so maybe it will be a little bit of a disadvantage for the defenses. The winds are projected for 15-20 mph, but Wembley Stadium appears to be in the same boat as Miami’s home arena: the top is well covered, and the winds aren’t going to swirl down to the field like in an open bowl in Chicago or New Jersey.

The only other weather I’m watching is some possible winds in Buffalo and Tampa Bay.

Injuries I’m keeping an eye on:

  • Aaron Jones for the Vikings matters a bit. Also keen to know if they end up bringing TJ Hockinson back, even though JJ may have leaked that they aren’t

  • In the same game, CB Carlton Davis and S Brian Branch are banged up and should be monitored

  • It sounds like Amari Cooper WILL PLAY for Buffalo this week.

  • In London, the Jags may get CB Tyson Campbell back. They desperately need some help in the secondary. Pats RB Rhamondre Stevenson is practicing and may play.

  • There are a bunch of players for the Seattle defense to track, per the norm.

  • The 49ers seem likely to trot their third different kicker of the year out there Sunday.

  • WR Marvin Harrison Jr. remains in the concussion protocol as of Thursday.

  • The Eagles are dealing with some impactful injuries, including TE Dallas Goedert. Keeping an eye on Jalen Carter and Darius Slay today

  • Dexter Lawrence and Brian Burns are supposed to practice today after missing some time this week.

  • CBs Michael Carter and DJ Reed of the NY Jets.

  • L’Jarius Sneed is still not practicing for the Titans, but we hear that it’s just a bruise.

  • Half a dozen injuries to the Texans with a could already ruled out (Kamari Lassiter and Jimmie Ward).

  • Jordan Mason, Deebo Samuel, & Jauan Jennings for the 49ers. All missing practice or in no-contact jerseys to far

  • Jonathan Taylor, Michael Pittman, and Alec Pierce for the Colts

  • Jakobi Meyers isn’t practicing for Vegas, leaving them thin at WR. Like “Saints-thin”

  • Dionte Johnson for Carolina. It’s a bad team, but this is still a good matchup for him.

  • COOPER KUPP!

HAVE a GREAT WEEKEND!
