Week 11 NFL Tiers and Power Ratings

A new cellar dweller has emerged, the Browns got bad news and a look at a few teams that got adjustments for the week ahead

Slow news day so far, right? Playoff races are starting to come into view and all the QB news made me go back to the drawing board a bit on my updated power ratings, but that’s the fun part.

Watson Done for the Year

The Browns will end up getting 12 starts from their highly-paid QB over his first two seasons.

Update: Not going to be P.J. Walker again

This market went from Cleveland -4 to -1 off the news with the total dropping into Iowa/Minnesota territory, down to 34 across the board. I’m not sure there’s a big difference between Walker and DTR, but I know there’s a sizeable gap between them and where Watson was at. I wouldn’t be surprised if this ends up with the Steelers as a slight road favorite in the end.

Justin Fields Back for the Bears

Upgrade for sure for the Bears and this line has come down off the Lions -10 we saw, but not a ton. I have it as a two-point upgrade from Bagent to Fields. The odd Lions -8.5 is peeking through, but this is -9 at most places.

Mac Jones’ Time Up?

Reports that Mac has “lost the locker room” and the team is “80/20 out on him” but the options behind him aren’t great, so I’m not sure anything actually happens.

Patriots Beat reported that Mac was with the ones to start practice today.

The Cowboys are just going to be the “Quad A” baseball player for me all damn year. Good enough to eviscerate bad teams and get a bump back up with the big boys but still have struggle spots against the truly good teams. For now, they’re among the top teams and still have another shot at Philly this year.

Moved Up: Arizona 📈

It's still not a good roster, but they can separate themselves from the other bottom feeders simply by having a good QB. The Pesky Factor gets amplified now that Kyler is back on the field.

Other upgrades: CHI, MIN

  • The Bears defense has been solid now that it’s healthy, and that counts for something. 7th in defensive EPA/play since week six. Obviously a small bump for the QB change as well.

  • Flores is turning chicken shit into chicken salad and getting more out of the Minnesota defense than I thought he could this early with this roster. This is also me adjusting back a bit on Dobbs, who seems to be getting it.

Moved Down: New York Football Giants 📉

I bet against them with Cowboys 1H -10 and still think I did not downgrade enough for DeVito. Nice kid, supportive family, just not an NFL QB though. The Giants are now my lowest-graded team, over 10 points worse than an average NFL team on a neutral.

Other downgrades: JAX, TEN

  • Tough spot for the Jags having to play Shanny/Purdy off their bye, but all the issues that have me worried about this team reared their heads: the offensive line struggled and the coverage and run stop were rough.

  • Levis looked good against the Falcons and has put up two pretty bad performances since. The Tennessee defense isn’t good enough to keep them in games if Levis can’t get the offense moving.
