Kicking off week 6 with a must win/can't lose divional matchup
Market
Lookahead prices were SF -3/47, reopening +3.5/46. There's not much in the way of movement on the side, but it's fairly steady over money coming in, pushing this up as high as 49.5 at some shops.
Injuries
49ers WR Chris Conley (oblique) & CB Charvarius Ward (knee) are questionable heading into tonight. DT Jordan Elliott (knee), LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (calf), and S Talanoa Hufanga (wrist) have been ruled out.
The 49ers will also be using a new kicker this week. Newly signed Matthew Wright will replace the injured Jake Moody (ankle).
Seattle DE Uchenna Nwosu is headed back to the IR with a thigh injury. DT Byron Murphy II (hamstring) and CB Riq Woolen (ankle) are both out (Murphy is trending toward playing next week). LB Derick Hall (foot) and DE Boye Mafe (knee) are questionable, but both seem likely to play based on what head coach Mike Macdonald has said. S Julian Love is a game-time decision with a hamstring injury.

Matchup
I like plenty of things about the Seattle team, but with the complete overhaul of the defense coupled with the injuries early on in the Mike Macdonald tenure, it’s just gonna be rough sometimes. Not having the talent at the outside corner, coupled with the missed games for a handful of players in the front seven, is going to mean this season will likely be a bit uneven.
Despite some good news up front, this still looks like a Seattle team that can be run on. We saw a team with a much lower offensive ceiling put up a 46% success rate on the ground with backup running backs last week. If you take out the Eric Gray fumble, the Giants were averaging 0.129 EPA/play on the ground. Yeah, Christian McCaffery is still likely many weeks away from playing ball, but Jordan Mason has been fine, especially in advantageous spots like what I think we’ll have here.
I should give the Giants some credit for the win (in the nice rest advantage spot), but at the same time, I wondered where the Seahawks team we saw at times versus the Lions was to start that game. Despite the loss, I thought we saw some nice concepts starting to take hold for the Ryan Grubb passing offense vs Detroit. They then rolled out a 1st half against the Giants that saw 4 drives end in 3 punts and a FG, with a very lucky defensive score keeping them in it.
I’m not sure what Seattle offense shows up tonight, but I would love to think that Kyle Shannahan watched Wandale Robinson, Darius Slayton, and Tyrone Tracy chew this defense up. It wasn’t a big YAC day for the Giants, but Daniel Jones was able to connect with his WR/TEs 19 times for over 200 yards. If the Niners can’t find the same success in the short to intermediate passing game with Deebo, Aiyuk, and Kittle, then maybe they deserve to stay behind Seattle in the standings.
Betting
I did look at the 49ers team total over and may end up with a small bet on that if the total takes some action to the under and pushes it down a bit. I still do believe that we’ll see a strong and diverse running attack from the 49ers, as well as a similar ability to dice up whatever Macdonald is throwing out there for coverages (he still does like to mix it up). If Julian Love sits, I like this even more versus a Seattle secondary that will struggle to support some pretty weak outside corners.
I want to bet something pro-49ers without laying something over a FG on the road in the division. Maybe I’m getting too cute here, but I do expect him to get a handful of touches out of the backfield as well. So, just a player prop to root for this evening:
Deebo Samuel o72.5 rushing + receiving yards -110
